Do's
Because granite and marble are so easy to care for and are strong, condensed stones, they really don’t require much care. However, there are a few things that can be done to keep them clean and shiny.
Cleaning is not very costly, a simple clean cotton cloth and some hot water will do the trick. You can occasionally use some pure lemon juice or even white vinegar mixed in hot water.
Although sealants are supposed to last up to 25 years, we do recommend resealing natural stone once every 5 to 10 years. There are granite and marble sealants which can be purchased at any stone manufacturing company.
Don'ts
Depending on use, you may occasionally scratch or stain your countertop. Here are some reminders of what not to do.
Avoid placing any hot item directly on the granite or marble surface, especially if they contain oil or grease. Hot liquids may penetrate stone surfaces.
Be careful with spills (ex. Red wines, grease) which may stain your counter if not cleaned right away. Never leave spills of any sort unattended.
When eating on granite or marble surfaces it is always recommended to use proper placemats.
Avoid sharp objects and cutting directly on the surface. Marble may be scratched and for either granite or marble a sharp object may rupture the applied sealant, thus enabling liquids to penetrate the surface.
